Laying of the railway line at Stanthorpe, ca. 1880

Looking from Mount Marley to Stanthorpe during the laying of the railway line into town. The ground has been cleared for the laying of the final stage from Cherry Gully to Stanthorpe. The first stage from Warwick to Cherry Gully was opened on 8 December 1880. The final stage was opened on 3 May 1881. Another extension from Stanthorpe to the New South Wales border was completed and opened on 4 February 1887. (Description supplied with photograph).
