Summary

Soldiers from the 210th Field Artillery Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division were awarded for their achievements during the Thunder Fitness Challenge Nov. 7, 2014, on Camp Casey, South Korea. While more than 85 Soldiers competed, only 25 achieved the lofty standard of the challenge. With a requisite score of 270 or above on the Army Physical Fitness Test prior to the competition just to qualify, Soldiers completed five events, that tested them both physically and mentally. The challenge included the pushup event for two minutes, the situp event for two minutes, the pullup event for 10 repetitions, the dip event for 20 repetitions and a three-mile run in 22 minutes or less. Sgt. George Barnard, a multiple launch rocket system operations/fire direction specialist, a native of Swampscott, Mass., assigned to C Battery, 6th Battalion, 37th Field Artillery Regiment, 210th Field Artillery Brigade, won the competition, earning him the Army Commendation Medal. In second place was 2nd Lt. Timothy Malloy, a native of Philadelphia, a distribution platoon leader, assigned to 580th Forward Support Company, 1st Battalion, 38th Field Artillery Regiment, 210th FA Bde. The third place winner was Sgt. George Harakas, a fire direction specialist from Bolingbrook, Ill., assigned to A Btry., 1st Bn., 38th FA Regt.
