Summary
Salvatore Polleta, Vietnam War veteran, glances out of a window March 10, 2020, at Luke Air Force Base, Ariz. Polleta served in the U.S. Air Force from 1965 to 1969 and was stationed at Luke from 1966 to 1967 as an aircraft maintenance mechanic working on the T-33 Starfire and F-100 Super Sabre. His fondest memories of service were ensuring the safety of each pilot as they were sent off to war. “I was responsible for their life. Some of them returned home but most didn’t.” (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman Alexander Cook)
