The Master of Dunois was a French illuminator and painter who worked between 1430 and 1465. He is named after Jean de Dunois, a French military commander who commissioned several of his works. The Master of Dunois is known for his illuminated manuscripts, which are characterised by their delicate and intricate detail. He often used gold leaf and bright colours in his work, giving his illustrations a rich and luxurious appearance. Some of the most famous works attributed to the Dunois Master are the Hours of Jean de Dunois, the Book of Hours of Catherine of Cleves and the Livre d'heures de Jacques Coeur. The style of the Dunois Master was strongly influenced by the International Gothic style, which was popular in Europe in the 14th and 15th centuries. His work helped to define this style and set the standard for illuminated manuscripts of the period. Today, many of the Master's works can be found in museums and private collections around the world. Prized for their beauty and historical significance, they continue to inspire artists and art lovers alike.
