S09-05-143 - STS-009 - Astronauts Garriott and Lichtenberg conducting experiment in Spacelab
Summary
The original finding aid described this as:
Description: NASA astronaut Owen K. Garriott, left, has just completed drawing blood from the arm of Byron K. Lichtenberg, a biomedical engineer from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology onboard the Spacelab module in the cargo bay of the Earth-orbiting Space Shuttle Columbia. The STS-9 mission specialist was about to connect Lichtenberg to a portable oscilloscope (at left frame). The band around the payload specialist's head and the connected recording device were worn during his waking hours throughout the mission as part of an effort to learn more about space adaptation. The blood sample taken earlier will be returned to Earth for analysis.
