Summary
Significance: This building is a primary contributor of the Rocky Flats Plant historic district, and is associated with the U.S. strategy of nuclear military deterrence during the Cold War, a strategy considered of major importance in preventing Soviet nuclear attack. Building 444, one of the first four buildings constructed at the plant, was the primary non-nuclear manufacturing facility. Manufacturing processes in this building fabricated weapons components and assemblies from a variety of materials, including depleted uranium, beryllium, stainless steel, aluminum, and vanadium. Building 444 remained in production until 1994.
