in the hammer, instead of into it as before. Locked.—By the position of the locking-brace independently of thehammer, which, when the breech has been closed, may be cocked in theusual way. Fired.—By a center-lock of the usual pattern, the mainspring of whichis double and has its lower leaf split near the end, so as to act uponboth the trigger and the sear-fly. Extraction and ejection.—By a mechanism essentially like that shownin No. 43, the ejection being helped by a flat spring playing on a cam-shaped shoulder on the rim of the extractor. Note.—A shoulder is formed on the upper surface of the sear-fly,against which the end of the mainspring bears when the hammer andblock are removed from the frame. A supplementary notch is formedin the lower surface of the locking-brace sear, which engages with thenose of the trigger, should the hammer be lowered to the half-cockafter loading. After firing, the hammer cannot be brought directly to the full-cockfor the reason given in No. 22.
