Raleigh Marines surprise 100 year old Marine at birthday party
Summary
Marines from Recruiting Station Raleigh attended Platoon Sgt. Joseph Goble’s 100th birthday party in Newton, N.C., Sept. 13, 2014. Goble joined the Marine Corps in 1942 and took part in operations on Guadalcanal. During his tour Goble was injured and received the Purple Heart and Silver Star. He was awarded the Silver Star for his heroic actions on Guadalcanal, putting himself in harm’s way to give cover fire for his Marines and carrying an injured Marine to safety during battle.
