Preliminary Excavations in 1999
Summary
In October of 1999, researchers from the University of Texas at Dallas, working under a scientific research permit, discovered the 27-foot long section of dinosaur neck in Big Bend National Park. The fossil is probably a member of the Alamosaurus genus from the late Cretaceous period and is about 70 million years old. In this photo, Dr. Homer Montgomery, from UT Dallas and other researchers are excavating and covering the bones with a plaster jacket for stabilization.
