Robert Nanteuil (1623-1678) was a French portraitist and engraver. He was born in Reims and studied art in Paris under Nicolas Regnesson and Philippe de Champaigne. Nanteuil became known for his delicate and precise engravings of prominent figures of his time, including members of the French court and aristocracy. His portraits were in great demand and he became one of the most successful portraitists of his time. Nanteuil's work is characterised by his ability to capture the likeness and personality of his subjects with great sensitivity and attention to detail. He died in Paris in 1678.
