The time column is calculated at the rate of thirtykilometres per hour for raihomj, and fifteen kilometres perhour for river transport, five hours being also added foreach break of gauge. (2.) The estimates of cost of construction are basedupon the same scale as those which have been already sub-mitted to the Brazilian government by the concessionairesof scheme No. 5 on table, being at the rate of 111:040$100per kilometre of railway, and 6:218$384: per kilometre ofriver section, the value of the milreis, for the sake of sim-plicity, having been taken at two shillings, or threepencebelow par. (3.) The proportions in the last column have been deducedby assuming the cost of maintenance to be in direct propor-tion to the cost of construction in eveiy case. THE END.
