Original caption: CAPE CANAVERAL - The U.S.S. Donner (LSD 20) plows through the Atlantic Ocean as it prepares to aid in the recovery of Astronaut Malcolm Scott Carpenter. The MA-7 flight, the U.S. second attempt to orbit an astronaut , was launched successfully from Cape Canaveral at 7:45 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 1962. The Donnor which carries several helicopters to assist in recovery of the Astronaut and the spacecraft Aurora 7 is commanded by Commander M.V. Cornetta.
