description

Summary

Vu de dos, le corps penché à gauche

Alfred Sisley (1839-1899) was a French Impressionist painter known for his landscapes, particularly those of the Seine and the countryside around Paris. He was born in Paris to English parents and spent most of his life in France. Sisley studied art in Paris and later became friends with fellow Impressionist painters Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Camille Pissarro. His paintings are characterised by his use of light and colour to capture the changing atmosphere of nature. Sisley's work was not widely recognised during his lifetime, but today he is considered one of the most important Impressionist painters.
