North American B-25 bomber is prepared for painting on the outside assembly line, N[orth] A[merican] Aviation, Inc., Inglewood, Calif.

A girl riveting machine operator at the Douglas Aircraft Company plant joins sections of wing ribs to reinforce the inner wing assemblies of B-17F heavy bombers, Long Beach, Calif. Better known as the "Flying Fortress," the B-17F bomber is a later model of the B-17, which distinguished itself in action in the south Pacific, over Germany and elsewhere. It is a long range, high altitude, heavy bomber, with a crew of seven to nine men -- and with armament sufficient to defend itself on daylight missions

Mrs. Cora Ann Bowen (left) works as a cowler at the Naval Air Base; Mrs. Eloise J. Ellis is a senior supervisor in the Assembly and Repairs Department, Corpus Christi, Texas

Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Aaron Sill, attached to the biomedical repair department aboard Military Sealift Command hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20), gives a donated teddy bear to a patient at the Onverwacht Clinic.

Naval air base, Corpus Christi, Texas. Perched high in the nose of a plane, this sailor mechanic is inspecting a Navy PBY at the naval air base in Corpus Christi, Texas. The ship has been reconditioned by civil service employee in the assembly and repair Department at the base. Every ship, after fulfilling its schedule of service, must be completely reconditioned. This work is done by the assembly and repair department

Switch boxes on the firewalls of B-25 bombers are assembled by women workers at North American [Aviation, Inc.]'s Inglewood, Calif., plant

Jack Cowan, Farm Security Administration representative, Helen Warren, home supervisor, and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Thornton, going over farm and home plans. Story County, Iowa

A noontime rest for a full-fledged assembly worker at the Long Beach, Calif., plant of Douglas Aircraft Company. Nacelle parts for a heavy bomber form the background

Brennan Wells; on the black horse, Kayla McShane, on the paint; and Macy Milbert, on the appaloosa, ride along Padre Island, near Corpus Christi, Texas. Wells owns the nearby, aptly named "Horses on the Beach" horseback-riding operation; the women are hands

Women in industry. Aircraft motor workers. Employer resistance to the hiring of women workers in war industries is rapidly becoming a thing of the past, and this young employee of a Midwest aircraft motor plant embodies the reasons for this change of heart. With no previous industrial experience, she mastered the operation of this compressed-air machine in record time, and is now polishing airplane motor parts with speed and skill

Workman at the naval air base. Corpus Christi, Texas. Notice his identification badge which allows him to enter base. Picture taken on Sunday

Production. Airplane maufacture, general. American mothers and sisters, like these women at the Long Beach, California, plant of Douglas Aircraft Company, give important help in producing planes for their men at the front. Most important of the many types of aircraft made at the plant are the B-17F ("Flying Fortress") heavy bomber, the A-20 ("Havoc") assault bomber and the C-47 heavy transport plane for the carrying of troops and cargo
