Of Special Merit.

(^\ I YBRID PERPETUALS are considered the most valuable of all hardy plants. They are

H — I distinguished by their vigorous, upright growth and large, bold flowers, frequently

I I measuring 5 to 6 inches in diameter. They thrive and succeed in all localities and are

entirely hardy in any part of the country, and will live through severe Winters with a

light protection of leaves or coarse manure. Some varieties do not bloom until the second year,

but when fully established they all bloom freely at the usual time, early in the season, and con-

tinue to bloom during the Summer and Autumn months. Hybrid Perpetuals will bear a con-

siderable amount of hardship and neglect, but improve greatly with good cultivation and rich

soil. They should invariably be planted in open ground, as they are not suitable for house cul-

ture. We have by far the choicest collection of Hybrid Perpetuals in the country, and recommend

those described below as the best varieties for general cultivation. Remember, our Roses are

strong plants, and none are grown in pots less than 2^4 inches in diameter, and many are grown

in 3-inch pots.

Hardy Koses.

This is perhaps the grandest and most

beautiful Rose now known. It is a genuine

Hardy Ever-blooming Rose. For immen-

sity in size, rich color, exquisite form and

delicious fragrance it stands without an equal.

It is a quick and bushy grower and a continuous

bloomer; makes magnificent buds and large,

deep, double flowers, and is valuable both for

house and garden culture. Color is a rich rosy

crimson, shaded and veined in the most charming
