Summary
One hundred and sixty soldiers from Norway’s Telemark Battalion stand in formation during their departure ceremony at Camp Adazi, Latvia, Nov. 20, 2014. The Telemark Battalion is made up of professional enlisted soldiers. Most of Norway’s army is comprised of conscripts. Latvian Minister of Defense Raimonds Vējonis and Latvian Lt. Gen. Raimonds Graube, the nation’s chief of defense, thanked the members of the battalion for their time in Latvia, training with the Latvian and U.S. armies and improving interoperability between NATO allies. These activities are part of the U.S. Army Europe-led Operation Atlantic Resolve land force assurance training exercise taking place across Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland to enhance multinational interoperability, strengthen relationships among allied militaries, contribute to regional stability and demonstrate U.S. commitment to NATO.
