November is National American Indian Heritage Month.

November is National American Indian Heritage Month. We’re taking a look at Soldiers within the Provider Brigade who embody the rich heritage that represents America. We would like to highlight Sgt. Kjrystin Esler, a Supply Specialist with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division Sustainment Brigade, and Gallup, NM native. Esler is a member of the Navajo (Diné) Tribe.

She joined the U.S. Army 2015, to continue to her education, challenge herself mentally, physically and spiritually, travel the world and to follow in the footsteps of her many family members who have served the Nation.

“The military provides free education so why not take advantage on bettering yourself with free knowledge. My grandpa, two sisters, brother and three cousins are currently serving and did serve in the Armed forces. I wanted to follow in their footsteps and make my family proud. So far, it has been a great challenge to accomplish my goal of serving 20 years in the United States Army. I want to give back in some way to the country that has given so much to the American People.”

“November is Native American Heritage Month to celebrate the different cultures, traditions and history of different tribes throughout the Nation. This month is to recognize the many important contributions that Native Americans have made in the past, present and in the future. This is a time to show awareness of different tribes, of their cultures, traditions and history to the other ethnicities of men and women in uniform. It’s a great opportunity to show how much the Army has different diverse cultures from around the world.”
