This Wright "double cyclone" engine powers the "Vengeance" dive bomber made at Vultee's Nashville Division. The "Vengeance" (A-31) was originally designed for the French. Many of Langley Laboratory's early experiments focused on ways to reduce aircraft drag. One method was to place a cowling or covering over the engine cylinder heads, much like the hood over the engine of a car.
