Explorers Column, Cañon de Chelle, Arizona. This shaft is the work of nature, and is about 900 feet in height; base about 70 by 110 feet. It stands near the center of the Cañon, and it is almost impossible to believe that it is not the work of human hands

Arthur Kochler, wood identification specialist of the Department of Agriculture, says the piece of wood he is holding is 12,000,000 years old. It is a fragment from a fossil log of redwood, 7 feet thick, found by workmen of the Reclamation Service buried 150 feet below the bed of the Yakima River in Washington. The log was petrified, buried in the lava flow from volcanoes which have been dead for millions of years, 11/30

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. –– The scarlet-feathered roseate spoonbill wades through water on NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Spoonbills inhabit areas of mangrove such as on the coasts of southern Florida and Texas. These birds feed on shrimps and fish in the shallow water, sweeping their bills from side to side. This and other wildlife abound throughout Kennedy as the center shares a boundary with the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. Photo credit: NASA/Dimitri Gerondidakis KSC-2009-2846

Conversion. Copper and brass processing. Stocks of partially completed lengths of seamless copper tube in many sizes. These have still to go through several more draws through dies on drawbenches. Each draw reduces them in diameter and wall thickness, and lengthens them out. Then, before the tubes leaves the mill, the ends will be sawed off straight and clean.
