Summary
Marine Corps Master Sgt. Floyde Rhoades, team leader for a seven-person team from the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command, uses a plumb bob while mapping out a grid unit during Phase Two Testing on the island of Betio, Republic of Kiribati. The team is deployed to the island searching for remains or evidence of the more than 500 Americans lost during the Battle of Tarawa. The Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command conducts global search, recovery and laboratory operations to identify unaccounted-for Americans from past conflicts in order to support the Department of Defense's personnel accounting efforts.
