The north temperate jet, at approximately 23° N, where the wind speed is about 150 meters per second, is seen as a dark brown line from the left-hand edge to the right-hand corner of the picture. The wispy clouds of the north equatorial belt appear as shades of brown. The lower right-hand corner of the image shows the brighter (white) clouds of the equatorial region. A small blue area is apparent near the lower edge, which corresponds to a region free of the upper clouds, where it is possible to penetrate to cloud layers approximately 60 kilometers below the visible surface.
