Mark Gilchrist, a member of the Australian Army, is transported aboard a Landing Craft Utility (LCU) 1651 of Assault Craft Unit (ACU) 1 with amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2) in the background. Gilchrist and other members of the Australian army embarked Essex to conduct command and control of combined forces as part of exercise Talisman Saber 2007 (TS07). TS07 is an Australian and U.S. joint and combined exercise designed to prepare both nations in crisis action planning and the execution of contingency operations.
