Lance Jackola, center, the commanding officer of 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, thanks Mayor Keith Curry, the city council members and the citizens of Newport Beach for their decade of support for the battalion at a meeting here, Nov. 26, 2013. The community adopted the battalion Dec. 9th, 2003 and has provided financial and emotional support for their Marines and their families. During the meeting, Jackola presented the mayor with a plaque and council members with a battalion coin.
