In the Space Station Processing Facility, a worker checks placement of the nameplate for the Unity connecting module, part of the International Space Station. Unity was expected to be transported to Launch Pad 39A on Oct. 26 for launch aboard Space Shuttle Endeavour on Mission STS-88 in December. The Unity is a connecting passageway to the living and working areas of ISS. While on orbit, the flight crew will deploy Unity from the payload bay and attach Unity to the Russian-built Zarya control module which will be in orbit at that time KSC-98pc1363

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- At the Operations and Checkout Building at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, space shuttle Discovery's STS-133 astronauts, dressed in their orange launch-and-entry suits, pause for a group portrait in front of the Astrovan which will transport them to Launch Pad 39A. The STS-96 crew smile and wave at onlookers as they eagerly head for the bus that will take them to Launch Pad 39B for liftoff of Space Shuttle Discovery, targeted for 6:49 a.m. EDT. STS-96 is a 10-day logistics and resupply mission for the International Space Station, carrying about 4,000 pounds of supplies, to be stored aboard the station for use by future crews, including laptop computers, cameras, tools, spare parts, and clothing. The mission also includes such payloads as a Russian crane, the Strela; a U.S.-built crane; the Spacehab Oceaneering Space System Box (SHOSS), a logistics items carrier; and STARSHINE, a student-involved experiment. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- A mock-up of a battery-powered lunar rover is displayed on Earth Day at a Sustainability Fair hosted by NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The fair was held adjacent to the Pathfinder Fitness Trail across the street from the 525-foot-tall Vehicle Assembly Building in Launch Complex 39. Kennedy Earth Day events included booths by a dozen sustainable companies and environmental organizations, displays on organic gardening, recycling, sustainable materials, alternative fuels and wildlife, and test-drives of several alternative-fuel vehicles. In keeping with the national theme, "Green Cities," the fair provided employees with the opportunity to learn how to do their parts in securing a healthy and sustainable future for their cities and the planet. The space center's sustainability objective is to "promote, maintain and pioneer green practices in all aspects of our mission, striving to be an agency leader in everything we do." Walter Johnson's contribution to the National Baseball Museum at Cooperstown, New York, will be these six baseballs autographed by six presidents: Theodore Roosevelt, William H. Taft, Woodrow Wilson, Warren G. Harding, Calvin Coolidge, and Herbert Hoover. With the exception of the ones autographed by Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Herbert Hoover, the balls are those which were thrown out at opening games pitched by Johnson during his regime as star pitcher for the Washington Senators. The ball autographed by President Hoover was presented to Johnson while he was manager of the Washington team while the one with the signature of Theodore Roosevelt was a special gift to the Big Train
