Letter from Wendell Phillips, [Boston, Massachusetts], to Samuel May, [1845 March] 26th

description

Summary

Wendell Phillips writes to Samuel May telling him that he did not receive his invitation to come to Leicester until "after the event." He says that he has been very busy and is now responding to May's invitation "because I hear you get no answers at all from W[illiam] L[loyd] G[arrison]" and Phillips "would not have my name coupled with such a fault." Phillips says that he promised Abby Kelley [Foster] that he "would write & offer to come & lecture at Leicester" but that he has " so many engagements as Gen[era]l Agent calling me to all parts of the state that it will be impossible for me to do so." Still, he promises to try to find time to travel to Leicester if May still wants him to come.
