Letter from Louis Alexis Chamerovzow, London, [England], to Mary Anne Estlin, 1854 Sep[tember] 28

description

Summary

Louis Alexis Chamerovzow writes to Mary Anne Estlin in regards to his letters on the Liberator and the Manchester Conference. He writes of John Scoble's successor and remarks "I am under the impression they misunderstand me, & the object I have in view my chief offence-if offence it be-is that John Scoble's successor Heaven knows I would not leave to my worst enemy such a legacy as he has left to me though unconsciously I believe I am myself lying open to suspicion simply because I am the Secretary of the B+F A.S. Society." He was told by Mrs. Chapman that the American anti-slavery society does not like "ours." He writes, "I defy any one to demonstrate that it [the abolition of slavery] can be brought about sooner by division than by union." He discusses the various views held at the Manchester conference.
