Letter from James C. White, [Cincinnati, Ohio], to Amos Augustus Phelps, 1842 Feb[ruary] 25

description

Summary

James C. White and Brother Goodman write to Amos A. Phelps regarding material to be printed in the new anti-slavery paper. Brother Goodman writes "we are now making a strong effort to place the 'Waterhuman of the Vally' [sic] on a safe and permanent foundation. This must be done now or it will go down." James C. White writes that it is important to establish a Congregational church in Cincinnati because "many christians are..withering for want of that responsibility and there privilieges which the principles of Con. Oh. Gov. would secure for them. Congregational Ministers and Layman came from the East and finding no other organization unite reluctancy with the Presbyterians. I feel that the cause of North and Holiness in losing must for want of a new organization."
