Letter from J. Waring to Mary Anne Estlin

description

Summary

J. Waring writes to Mary Anne Estlin in regards to a trip to Mrs. Chapman. Waring writes, "Most of what she said has occupied my mind since, especially that about Mr. Garrison." Waring writes, "I have so satisfying a sense of my own laziness in doing the will of the Saviour I confess, that I..shared by those who, like Garrison, are so industriously acting upon their own emotions." A second letter to Mary is written a day later regarding thanking her for sending a copy of the Emancipator but mentions that news of Joshua Leavitt & Tappan was not mentioned. The author discusses abolitionists including a Mrs. A Thomas who "will I suppose swim with the stream."
