Letter from Francis Bishop to Mary Anne Estlin

description

Summary

Francis Bishop writes to Mary Anne Estlin regarding the health of Mary Anne's aunt and herself. He writes that the Boston Anti-Slavery Society "is the only one doing good in the states." He writes of abolitionists troubles in taking up the cause from those who "profess Christianity." He poses the question, "Why do not all Anti-Slavery people in the States and here too agree to spare each others feelings." He writes of H.C. Wright and the British and Foreign Anti-Slavery Society and of its Christian leaders. He discusses his own religious meetings and writes, "we had colored people present, several of them Fugitive Slaves, from Tennesee, South Carolina, Georgia, Marland, & Missouri."
