Letter from Charles Augustus Stackpole, Portland, [Maine], to William Lloyd Garrison, 1864 Jan[uar]y 4th
Summary
C.A. Stackpole writes to William Lloyd Garrison enclosing money (not included) to pay for two subscriptions to the Liberator and a copy of "Saturday's Press containing the proceedings of the Emancipation jubliee" (not included). Stackpole states that the celebrations "exceeded in interst anything of the kind, or in fact any public demonstration ever before made in Portland." He says Garrison's "position and labors here have very materially contributed to this grand result" and hopes that the Liberator will mention the celebrations in Portland in its next issue.
