Museum curator Harold D. "Buck" Rigg (right) and his brother Art Rigg, who built the 1/6th scale model of a Douglas O-6 Observation aircraft and donated it to the Eighth Air Force Museum, Barksdale Air Force Base (AFB), Louisiana (LA), in memory of their father, Lieutenant Colonel (LCOL) H.M. "Hal" Rigg. This is the type of aircraft that Lieutenant (LT) Eugene Hoy Barksdale, namesake of Barksdale AFB, flew on Aug 11, 1926 over McCook Field, Dayton Ohio (OH) testing the airplane for spin characteristics, and attempted to bailout when he could not recover from a flat spin. Kenney, (right) of New Jersey, Chairman of the House Interstate Commerce Committee, viewing a model of a new american designed dirigible displayed at the Capitol today. Roland B. Respess, President of the Respess Aeronautical Engineering Corp., is pointing out the features of the ship to the House member. Model for silver anniversary of commercial aviation. Washington, D.C., Dec. 29. New Years Day will mark the 25th anniversary of commercial aviation. The first passenger air line was established between St. Petersburg, and Tampa, Fla. with Tony Jannus, a Washington, D.C., boy, piloting the plane. Paul E. Garber of the U.S. National Museum has secured this model of the original Benoist plane, which was used on the first flight, for the national Aircraft Collection of which he has charge. The Harris & Ewing, Inc. Collection of photographic negatives includes glass and film negatives taken by Harris & Ewing, Inc., which provide excellent coverage of Washington people, events, and architecture, during the period 1905-1945. Harris & Ewing, Inc., gave its collection of negatives to the Library in 1955. The Library retained about 50,000 news photographs and 20,000 studio portraits of notable people. Approximately 28,000 negatives have been processed and are available online. (About 42,000 negatives still need to be indexed.)
