Andre Giroux was born on 18 May 1801 in Paris, France. He was a renowned photographer and painter, best known for his landscape photographs and paintings. Giroux began his career as a painter and studied under the famous French painter Jean-Victor Bertin. In the early 1840s, Giroux became interested in photography and began experimenting with the new medium. He quickly mastered the art of photography and began to produce high quality landscape photographs. His photographs were highly regarded for their composition and technical excellence. Giroux was one of the first photographers to use the calotype process, which allowed him to produce large prints with a high level of detail. He also experimented with other photographic processes such as daguerreotype and wet plate collodion. In addition to photography, Giroux continued to paint throughout his life. He was particularly interested in landscape painting and often used his photographs as inspiration for his paintings. Giroux's work was exhibited at the Paris Salon and other exhibitions throughout Europe. He received numerous awards and honours for his photography and painting, including the Legion of Honour in 1865. Andre Giroux died in Paris on 26 March 1879. Today, his photographs and paintings are held in collections around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
