Significance: The project area encompasses stone walls constructed by the Works Progress Administration, a low-clearance overpass for the Union Pacific (formerly Missouri-Kansas-Texas) Railroad. The two-lane Landa Street Bridge that extends over the Comal River, the Old Comal Power Plant, and Landa Industries including The Paradise Alley Neighborhood. The strategic location of New Braunfels, between San Antonio and Austin, on an established overland trade and transport route in the 1800s, made the area a prime target for permanent settlement, as did the presence of nearby streams, rivers, and creeks and the availability of natural resources such as limestone, sand, gravel, and timber...
