Boeing workers officially turn over the P6 Integrated Truss Structure to the NASA shuttle integration team in a ceremony in the Space Station Processing Facility. A symbolic key will be presented to Brent Jett (at left), commander on mission STS-97, which is taking the P6 to the International Space Station. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – Engineers and technicians prepare NASA's Project Morpheus prototype lander for free flight test number 15 at the north end of the Shuttle Landing Facility at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The lander will take off from the ground over a flame trench and use its autonomous landing and hazard avoidance technology, or ALHAT sensors, to survey the hazard field to determine safe landing sites. Project Morpheus tests NASA’s ALHAT and an engine that runs on liquid oxygen and methane, which are green propellants. These new capabilities could be used in future efforts to deliver cargo to planetary surfaces. Project Morpheus is being managed under the Advanced Exploration Systems, or AES, Division in NASA’s Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate. KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. - Erupting from the clouds of smoke below, Space Shuttle Endeavour roars into space on mission STS-111 to the International Space Station. Liftoff occurred at 5:22:49 p.m. EDT. The STS-111 crew includes Commander Kenneth Cockrell, Pilot Paul Lockhart, and Mission Specialists Franklin Chang-Diaz and Philippe Perrin (CNES), as well as the Expedition Five crew members Valeri Korzun, Peggy Whitson and Sergei Treschev. This mission marks the 14th Shuttle flight to the International Space Station and the third Shuttle mission this year. Mission STS-111 is the 18th flight of Endeavour and the 110th flight overall in NASA's Space Shuttle program KSC-02pd0898

Defense housing, Erie, Pennsylvania. The entire framework, including sections for doors and windows, is fabricated horizontally. The crew working here will later move to another site and repeat the procedure. This circulation of crews who are experienced in one type of construction adds to the speed with which defense homes are being built. Two crews of forty men each are used to raise the stud frames of a four-unit defense home. On the project shown here, one crew started the framework at 8:30am, fabricating it horizontally, and finished it at noon. The other crew moved in shortly after, erected the stud frame, ends, and floor joists, and finished the entire framework by 4:30pm the same day
