Jan Baptist Nollekens was a Flemish painter who was born in Antwerp in 1665. He was the son of the sculptor Pieter Nollekens and the brother of the painter Pieter Andreas Nollekens. Jan Baptist Nollekens is known for his religious and mythological paintings as well as his portraits. Nollekens studied with the painter Jan Erasmus Quellinus in Antwerp. He later moved to Paris, where he worked for the French court, painting portraits of members of the royal family. He also worked for the court of the Bavarian elector in Munich. Nollekens' style is characterised by realism and attention to detail. His religious paintings often feature dramatic lighting and emotional expressions on the faces of his subjects. His portraits are known for their accuracy and lifelike qualities. Nollekens' works can be found in museums and private collections throughout Europe.
