Summary
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (August 20, 2019) – Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Henry Branham (right), a sailor participating in Navy Medicine’s Hospital Corpsman Trauma Training, assists with suturing a patient’s partially-draped arm at UF Health Jacksonville on Aug. 20. Sixteen hospital corpsmen from across the Navy received two weeks of specialized training at Naval Hospital Jacksonville, followed by five weeks at UF Health Jacksonville (a Level I trauma center). Branham, a native of Seattle, Washington, will be assigned to11th Marine Expeditionary Unit at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. “This course has exposed me to real-life scenarios that I’ll be expected to assess and treat on my own when I’m down range with my Marines. Because of this training, I believe I’ll be able to provide the best medical care to my Marines when they need it.” The corpsmen, who have already served one tour at a military treatment facility, are then assigned to operational units across the globe. The clinical rotations provide enhanced real-world trauma experience for Navy hospital corpsmen, who provide life-saving care to sailors and Marines in the field.
