The literature on gastric ulcers is virtually limited to a descrip-tion of hour-glass stomach, Haudeks niche, and roentgen signsand symptom complexes. The last are of comparatively little valueby themselves, because they are inferential, or, as classed by some,indirect. Holzknecht and his two renowned assistants, Jonas and Haudek,have compiled a series of tables of symptom complexes embodyingmature conclusions derived from inductive reasoning based on alarge experience. . SYMPTOM COMPLEX I. 1. Stomach empty after six hours. Head of the bismuth columnin ascending colon. 2. Stomach shadow normal. Hubeny: Gastrointestinal Roentgenology 937 3. No increased peristalsis. No antiperistalsis. 4. No sensitive pressure point. 5. Hydrochloric acid normal.Diagnosis.—Normal stomach.
