NEW YORK, New York (Dec. 30, 2003)--Coast Guard Petty Officer Brett Patterson, crewmember of Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron (HITRON), Jacksosonville, Fla., mans an M-240 machine gun on board a Stingray MH-68A helicopter during a homeland security patrol around New York City, Dec. 30, 2003. The homeland security flights are one of several direct responses to Mayor Michael Bloomberg's request for support during the increased terror alert threat issued by the Department of Homeland Security.The HITRON team is also here to augment the Coast Guard Captain of the Port of New York and New Jersey efforts to keep the harbor safe and secure.
