Everything still quiet.Report concerning the burning of Chambersburg confirmed.News was received that the Rebels have left the State. Themembers of Company D are feeling much better. Nearly all ofthe members of that Company are from the Cumberland Valley. August 3rd. Everything is quiet along the front. Still inthe same camp. August 4th. Nothing transpiring of importance. Membersof Company D received the names of the owners of the proper-ties burned at Chambersburg. August 6th. Weather very warm. Heavy fighting on theextreme right. The Rebels charged three successive times on ourlines, but were handsomely repulsed each time. Rebels lossheavy with the loss of 700 prisoners. August 6th. One-half of the Regiment was ordered to oc-cupy the fort in front of our Brigade. The first five Companieswent out. Heavy mortar firing on the right. Lay in the fortall night. August 7th. Sunday.
