AMERICAN MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY art. The products of the loom are represented by thebeautifully woven pile cloths of the Bakuba, woven by themen from patterns supplied by the women. In addition are numerous finely carved wooden vessels,images, basketry and well molded pottery vessels. In thenorthwestern section of the hall are bronze and brass cast-ings made by a process similar to that used in Europe inthe Renaissance period. Throughout the collections arenumerous fetiches and charms believed to give security inbattle or to avert sickness or evils. Masks used by medi-cine men are also in evidence. As an addition to the general attractiveness of the ar-rangement of the specimens, there is a mural border oftypical scenery of the several sections of the Dark Con-tinent. When space is available these collections will be greatlyenhanced by the addition of material secured on a Museumexpedition maintained in Africa from 1909 to 1915. 66 1. ELEVA reil(s 2.
