The negroidfeatures suggest a point of origin insoutheastern Mexico Fhe little baby-faced fig-ire to the left resembleshe jade figure on page 77.The statuette is of serpen-Line, and the techniqueof carving suggests an imi-tation of the effects ob-tainable in the harder greenstone, jade 79 This ornament (after Sa-ville, 1920) is an exquisiteexample of Mixtec jewelryin the National Museumof Mexico. It imitates afeather-mosaic shield andthe background of thedesign is turquoise inlay
