"Gridiron Widows" Burlesque President and Chief Justice. Washington, D.C., Dec. 16. Mrs. Roosevelt played host to her guests, the 'Gridiron Widows' at the White House while the Gridiron Club played host to President Roosevelt at the National Press Club. Mrs. Roosevelt named the group of women because of the lack of men on the night of the annual Gridiron dinner, and called in women government officials, newspaperwomen, and wives and guests of the members of the Gridiron Club for a party at which they make merry at the expense of the capital's notables.
