Mary Oki, a member of the Center Education Department, assisting in registering two young Nisei residents, Edith Yoshomoto, (left) and Mary Yasuda, (right), in the general registration instigated by the United States Army and the War Relocation Authority. All residents were being registered as a first step in utilizing the available manpower in war work. Mary and Edith were interested in defense work, but more interested in the possibility of serving in the auxiliary armed forces.
