Golden-Backed Snipe Fly - Public Domain image, National Parks Gallery
Summary
Golden-backed Snipe Flies, Chrysopilus thoracicus, are predators who feed on aphids and other insects. Their striking markings are thought to be a mimicry of bees and wasps, so predators will leave them alone. There are different species of this fly in the park.
