Summary
Maria en Jozef knielen bij het Christuskind. Reproductie van het miraculeuze schilderij waaraan de overwinning door de gecombineerde legers van het Heilige Roomse Rijk en de Katholieke Liga onder Johan Tserclaes, graaf van Tilly, op de Tsjechische Bílá Hora bij de Slag op de Witte Berg (8 november 1620) bij Praag werd toegeschreven. Het schilderij werd op 8 mei 1622 naar de kerk van Santa Maria della Vittoria te Rome gebracht. Op het schilderij zijn de ogen van alle figuren, behalve die van het Christuskind, uitgestoken. Op de prent zijn ze ingevuld met potlood. In het onderschrift een toelichting op deze geschiedenis. Prent maakt deel uit van een album.
Printmaking in woodcut and engraving came to Northern Italy within a few decades of their invention north of the Alps. Engraving probably came first to Florence in the 1440s, the goldsmith Maso Finiguerra (1426–64) used the technique. Italian engraving caught the very early Renaissance, 1460–1490. Print copying was a widely accepted practice, as well as copying of paintings viewed as images in their own right.
