Photographs for advertising of products, companies, shops, produced by Studio Mario Novais. This collection was acquired in 1985 by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and consists of 80,309 photographs of various types (negatives, slides, interpositives). The collection covers 50 years of Novais Studio activity. The Studio specializes in photography of architecture and art works, although Mario Novais has also practiced other photographic genres. Mario Novais (1899-1967), was from a family of great photographers. He began his professional career as a portraitist. In 1933 set up his own studio - Novaes Studio - in Lisbon, which would remain active for 50 years. In addition to a photography of architecture and art works, in which he specialized, he also practiced the photo-reportage, advertising, commercial and industrial photography.
