New London, Conn. (Oct. 20, 2003) Rear Adm. Joseph A. Walsh, Commander Submarine Group Two/Navy Region Northeast, on behalf of Vice Adm. Timothy J. Keating, Commander U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, Commander U.S. Fifth Fleet presented the Bronze Star Medal to five submarine commanders "for meritorious achievement in connection with combat operations as commanding officers of their submarines in Operation Iraqi Freedom. The awards ceremony took place at Naval Submarine Base New London's Dealey Center Theater. Receiving the Bronze Star Medal were (L-R) Cmdr. Mike Haumer, Commanding Officer, USS Augusta (SSN 710), Cmdr. Jeffrey Currer, Commanding Officer, USS Pittsburgh (SSN 720), Cmdr.
