Festival Badge with Five-Clawed Dragon Surrounded by Chrysanthemums
Summary
Badges decorated with chrysanthemums were appropriate for the chrysanthemum festival celebrated in the ninth lunar month. The embroidery techniques used here find close parallels in textile treasures from Dingling, the tomb of the Wanli emperor of the Ming (r. 1573–1620). Badges with festival symbols were not used at the Chinese court after the Ming dynasty.
