Parts of wearing apparel from President Roosevelt, Mrs. Roosevelt, members of the Cabinet, diplomats and notables from all over. From Hollywood Bing Crosby sent a tie while Mae West and Shirley Temple contributed parts of dresses. Former Emperor Haile Selassie's neckties and a linen of Winsor, are also included on the quilt. Diapers from the Dionne Quintuplets are also prominently displayed, 8/17/37

"Betsy Ross of the Capitol." Washington, D.C. Mrs. Georgeieanna Higgins. Official title is Seamstress to the United States Senate, but for years has been called the "Betsy Ross of the Capitol." She is responsible for keeping the flag that flies over the Senate wing of the Capitol in proper flapping order. This is no mean job since the flag flies night and day when the Senate is in session, which means a terrific beating from the elements, an average of 12 Flags is used each session

National Archives. Washington, D.C., Nov. 22. Preservation of documents has long been a problem in libraries and offices of record. It was once done by a process known as 'crepelining,' which consisted in placing coarsely woven silk over and under the paper to be preserved with the use of adhesive. The most modern process now used is called the laminating process and consists in sandwiching the document between two sheets of thin, transparent cellulose acetate. This is then placed between two highly polished metal plates and subjected to heat and pressure in a hydraulic press

The Harris & Ewing, Inc. Collection of photographic negatives includes glass and film negatives taken by Harris & Ewing, Inc., which provide excellent coverage of Washington people, events, and architecture, during the period 1905-1945. Harris & Ewing, Inc., gave its collection of negatives to the Library in 1955. The Library retained about 50,000 news photographs and 20,000 studio portraits of notable people. Approximately 28,000 negatives have been processed and are available online. (About 42,000 negatives still need to be indexed.)

President Roosevelt met with his Relief and Congressional Aides today to the personal command of a new administration fight to check business recession with a $4,000,000,000 pump priming campaign. Smithsonian exhibits model of new cultural center for Samoan Islanders. Washington, D.C., Nov. 15. Down in the Island of American Samoa the natives quite firmly believe that no white man can master their architecture and manner of construction without glue, pegs, or nails. Lt. Comdr. P.J. Halloran, U.S.N. assigned to the island, set about studying their methods of construction by tying all members of the building together with grass rope, and became so thoroughly familiar with it that he supervised construction of a native library for the islanders. Since way back, construction of buildings has been done in Samoa by members of a guild known as Agaiotupu, and so well did Comdr. Halloran learn the business that he was made a member of the Guild. Here is Iris Lou Sinnett, Secretary in the Office of the National Collection of Fine Arts admiring a model of the 84 foot building which has been placed on exhibition at the Smithsonian Institution here
