Summary
Horizontal rectangle. An elderly man is shown at left seated at his writing desk. He measures a metal thumb-card with a compass in his left hand. The right hand holds a square. A low bowl stands in the right foreground supported by four lion feet over which human heads rise, representing the quarters of the globe: "occidens," "meridiens," "levante," "tramontan." A ship model hangs from the ceiling. The room is richly furnished. The bed stands in the left back corner. Recto: "b(?)rief vanden 25 Jannuare 3 hebbech."
